Under this initiative Polonnaruwa, Hingurakgoda, Palali, Rathmalana, Koggala, Katukurunda, Weeravila, Trincomalee, Sigiriya, Batticaloa, Ampara, KKS and Vavuniya airports will be renovated. A committee has been appointed by the Ports and Aviation Ministry Secretary to obtain suggestions for the renovation process. The Committee comprises several Government institutions such as the Sri Lanka Air Force, Airport and Aviation Limited, Tourist Board, Mihin Lanka and the Civil Aviation Authority.
According to the recommendations of the Committee, Ampara, Trincomalee and Koggala airports will be developed initially. Ratmalana and Palali airports will also be developed while increasing their facilities.
