The Sri Lanka National Engineering Research Institute is to introduce a new machine to extract palmyrah juice.
A traditional method is now being used for this purpose. The Engineering Research Institute pointed out that about 345 kilograms of palmyrah juice can be extracted at time from the new machine.
It said that the traditional method consumes high labour. The palmyrah juice is a popular industry in the Northern Province.
It is being packed and imported. Chairman of the institute D.R. Pulleperuma noted that with the introduction of the new machine, the industry can be developed on a large scale.
