A national drugs committee has been appointed to handle the import, distribution and management of drugs.
At the first meeting of the Health Workers Advisory Committee at the National Blood Centre in Narahenpita, Minister Maithripala Sirisena said all advisory committees can submit views and proposals.
The Minister said taking into consideration the situation already prevailing with regard to the import, distribution, storage, management and usage of drugs, the Cabinet appointed a committee based on this recommendation, to carry out these activities in a more efficient manner.
Health Secretary Dr. Ravindra Ruberu is serving as the head of the Committee. The other members are Director of the National Drugs Authority Dr. Hemantha Benaragama, Child Specialist Dr. Sanath Lamabadhusuriya and representatives of the Sri Lanka Medical Council, the Finance Ministry, the Science and Technology Ministry, the State Drugs Manufacturing Corporation and the Colombo Medical Faculty.
