Sri Lanka is in a must-win situation to hang on to the top two slots in the Micromax Tri Nation Cricket tournament when facing the New Zealanders today at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium.
The toss factor, which was earlier predicted as a must win one, does not apply now as the results of the first round indicated it as wrong. It was said that the team who wins the toss, must bat first in order to win the match. It went right with the tournament opener, but from then on, things took a different turn.
Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by three wickets with 55 balls remaining and on Monday, India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets with 93 balls remaining. All teams have won one match each and New Zealanders are on top with the higher run rate and Lankans have the disadvantage of not having a bonus point like the other two teams.
With two more matches remaining, Sri Lanka would be looking forward to a happy ending to today’s match. Unlike the batting in the previous match, Sri Lanka definitely should do better. In Sangakkara’s words, their batting was not at all professional and not up to standard at this level of cricket.
