Prime Minister DM Jayaratne affirmed that the Government has taken immediate steps to facilitate Sri Lankan Haj pilgrims. The Prime Minister pointed out that official discussions in this regard were held with the Government of Saudi Arabia. Premier made these comments at a discussion held with the Travel Agencies coordinating the pilgrims at the Ranmuthu Hotel, Colombo 3 yesterday.
The Prime Minister insisted that Travel Agencies have an immense responsibility to ensure the safety and attend to the needs of the Haj pilgrims. Therefore, Jayaratne insisted that all Travel Agencies should pay extra attention to ensure all their customers a safe journey.
It is the responsibility of the government to protect every citizen of this country and the government has not failed to do so.
Therefore, the government has taken immediate steps to increase the safety levels and facilities provided for our Haj pilgrims.
Every Sri Lankan citizen has the freedom to worship any religion. People in the North and East did not enjoy this privilege during the past 30 years.
