President Rajapaksa launches construction work on the new building complex of the Highways Secretariat. The estimated cost is 1.1 billion rupees.
The new building complex will come up at 216, Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha in Battaramulla. Construction will be carried out in two stages. Financial assistance comes from the Asian Development Bank. The Complex will have eight storeys. The first stage of the complex which will incur an expenditure of 600 million rupees will have three floors. The work is expected to be completed in one yer. The second stage will incur an expenditure of 500 million rupees. The Ground Floor which will be used as a car park will be able to accommodate 90 vehicles at a time. The entire complex will have 226 thousand square feet of space. 30 thousand 900 square feet will be set apart for the Highways and Road Development Ministry and the Road Development Authority.
The balance space will be used to house a consumer centre, a day care centre, an auditorium with a 200 seating capacity and restrooms. Members of the Maha Sangha, Parliamentarians, state officials and ADB Deputy President Xiaoyu Zhao Shawa were present at the launching of the work.
