UNP Parliamentary Minister and President’s Counsel Mr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, who made allegations of corruption against a certain government minister during Tuesday (17) parliamentary session, refused to disclose names, places and other details when contacted by the Sunday Leader.
He claimed that the minister in question demanded a commission against a Japanese entity that offered to build USD 850 million worth of housing for communities threatened with elephant rampage and which are in constant fear of elephant attacks.
He told the Sunday Leader that the entity in question was a Japanese NGO and that the incident in question happened about 3 years ago. However, he said that further incriminatory details will be submitted to the Speaker in due course and cannot be revealed as yet.
It remains to be seen of the Minister will follow through on his word as the public’s right to information and justice in the case has still gone unfulfilled.
