Around 700 Sri Lankans who are illegally remaining in Lebanon will be brought back to Sri Lanka. They have been granted an amnesty.
Chairman of the Foreign Employment Bureau Kingsley Ranawake said the first group will be brought to the island tomorrow. The Sri Lankans had been overstaying in Lebanon.
The Amnesty permits them to return without paying a fine. Around 700 persons have been registered with the Sri Lanakan Embassy for this purpose.
The remaining Sri Lankans will be brought after their travel documents are formalised. Mr. Ranawaka pointed out that the officials of the Foreign Employment Bureau and the Sri Lanka Embassy are working towards this end.
