‘No Compromise on National security’ – President Maithripala

President-Maithri-SLFPPresident Maithripala Sirisena said there will be no compromise regarding the country’s national security and territorial integrity, since it is above all other things. He said that all are duty bound to protect and safeguard the motherland. That is nothing new to Sri Lankans as we all are prepared to protect the motherland when needed.

The President was participating in the passing out ceremony held at the Diyatalawa Military Training Academy.

President Sirisena said that we are an independent nation even though a small country. He said the nation pays tribute to the War Heroes’ who sacrificed their life and limb for the motherland.

“The sacrifices made by our War Heroes will be remembered forever. We all have clearly understood that our valiant War Heroes sacrificed their lives to create a peaceful country for us. Their service cannot be undermined under any circumstances” he noted.

The President said due recognition will be accorded to the Security Forces personnel.

He further noted that the commitment made by the War Heroes during their march to liberate the country cannot be underestimated.

“The country’s independence was secured due to their commitment and dedication. the President added, The unwavering commitment and devotion of our War Heroes helped protect the country’s freedom and independence. “Currently, Sri Lankan Security Forces personnel are engaged in peacekeeping missions abroad bringing honour to the country,” he said.

The President pointed out that the UN recruits members of the Security Forces of a country for peace keeping missions if they have a good track record. Our Security Forces personnel have earned a good reputation as being one of the most disciplined armies in the world. The President said that measures will be taken to provide more opportunities for our Security Forces to serve in UN peace-keeping forces. Discussions will be held with the UN in this regard.
