Waldorf family dogs fatally shot, police investigate
WALDORF, Md. (WJLA) - Sheriff's deputies in Charles County are asking for the public's help in solving a heartbreaking crime involving two family dogs.
Investigators are trying to figure out who fatally shot Benelli and Bear and why? The inexplicable crime happened at Zekiah Farms in Waldorf. The dogs' owner Cindy Thorne told ABC 7, "Somebody obviously shot them for no reason."
Thorne last saw her beloved retrievers alive on the evening of Friday, July 3 after she took them for a walk and swim on the family property.
After nearly three days of searching, her son Tyler Thorne made the grisly discovery on the farm Monday morning.
He recounted the gruesome find, "When I rolled her over I could see in her left front shoulder there was a hole and a second hole in her right flank," he said.
Not long after Thorne found Benelli's lifeless body, his mother saw the dog's offspring Bear near the same location in the same shape.
Thorne can't believe someone would do something so cruel. "Now I feel violated and unsafe for the well-being of the dogs we have left and for the livestock," she explained.
Neighbors like Joe Webb are shaken too. "Stuff like that is strange for this area. We are all concerned and want to get to the bottom of it," he said.
The Charles County Sheriff's office is investigating and encourages anyone with information to contact them.
