Paddy purchasing continues in Ampara
Paddy is continuously being purchased in the Ampara District.
Already paddy is being purchased at 17 Warehouses in the Ampara District. The paddy stocks in congested storages were transferred to the Veyangoda storage complex in containers yesterday. Six containers were sent to the Ampara paddy purchasing centre during the course of the day. Manager of the Paddy Marketing Board, R.A.B. Ratnayake said that their aim is to expedite the purchase of paddy. The Board has taken measures to purchase ten million kilos of paddy in Ampara District.
Meanwhile the Peoples Bank has approved a sum of 1.5 billion rupees to be given to the Paddy Marketing Board to buy paddy in the Yala season. The Bank has taken measures to issue a loan of 50,000 rupees with eight percent interest to store paddy of small scale farmers until the paddy can be sold at a reasonable price.
