86,000 hectares will be cultivated with paddy in the North this Maha
The Government is prepared to launch cultivation at the same time in the Nine Provinces for the forthcoming Maha season along with 86,000 hectares of fallow paddy land in the North. Minister Basil Rajapaksa made this revelation while distributing agricultural implements and seed-paddy among the peasants in Kilinochchi.
The Minister dished out to farmers in the Northern Province 180 Tractors and seed-paddy for cultivation at the forthcoming Maha season. The distribution took place this morning. The International Red Cross had gifted the Tractors. The Food and Agriculture Organisation provided 300 thousand bushels of seed-paddy. Ministers Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and Douglas Devananda were present.
