2 swimmers missing in Calvert County, coast guard search begins
CALVERT COUNTY, Md. (WJLA) - The Coast Guard and state and local agencies are searching for two missing swimmers Saturday.
Officials said the two swimmers went missing near Cove Point Light Station in Maryland. Calvert County 911 Dispatch contacted Baltimore Coast Guard officials at approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday after the swimmers didn't return to shore.
The swimmers are described as two white males approximately 40-years-old. Officials said one of the men weighs 280 pounds and has tattoos. He was wearing black and blue swimming trunks. The second man was also wearing black and blue swimming trunks and has long gray hair.
Authorities said the names of the men are being withheld until a next of kin is notified.
Officials added that a boat crew from the Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes launched a search for the men along with officials from the Calvert County Fire, Calvert County Police and Maryland Natural Resources Police.
A helicopter crew from the Coast Guard Air Station in Atlantic City, NJ is conducting a search Saturday.
