Sri Lanka and Iran agree to expand trade ties. The discussions between the leaders of the two countries have yielded many benefits.
The meeting between President Rajapaksa and his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took place yesterday. The President’s economic policy with a new vision promoting cooperation between various communities with the end of terrorism earned accolades from the Iranian President. He also agreed to provide broad opportunity within the Iranian market for Sri Lanka tea. The attention of both leaders was drawn to establishing a committee of of senior personnel from both countries to look into aspects of expediting the the expansion and development of the Sapugaskande Oil Refinery. Discussions also covered the possibility of Sri Lanka obtaining high quality drugs manufactured in Iran, and the supply of ayurvedic medicinal preparations from Sri Lanka.
