Colombo Bourse, the best in the world
Sri Lanka’s stocks closed up 110.9 percent so far this year. Accordingly it today became the best performing market in the world, beating Mongolia. Deputy Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission Malik Cader said Colombo’s benchmark closed at 7,147 topping the 7,000 mark today.
Mr. Cader said they are happy to note that the Colombo Stock Market has been rated as the best performing market in the world for the year 2010 and this is a significant achievement for Sri Lanka. The All Share Price Index rose to over 7,000 points. He said the market turnover today exceeded six billion rupees. The Milanka Price Index is nearing the 8,000 mark and has reached 7,829. This he emphasized is a positive signal as to the developments in the capital market and in Sri Lanka in general.
