Sanath Jayasuriya to lead World XI side against Nepal in charity match for earthquake relief

Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya will captain the World XI side which will play against Nepal in the fundraising match at Kinrara Oval in Malaysia on August 9th the proceeds of which will go to a relief fund for victims of the earthquake in Nepal earlier this year.

The World XI team is a mixture of current and former players, with the most accomplished player in their ranks being legendary opener Sanath Jayasuriya, who has 21,032 runs and 440 wickets at international level.

Also playing for the World XI is former Pakistan keeper-captain Rashid Latif, Bangladesh spin duo Abdur Razzak and Sohag Gazi as well as Steve O’Keefe and Marcus Stoinis, who are returning from Australia A’s tour of India.

Other names include Venugopal Rao who played 16 ODIs for India, former Bangladesh captain and now ACC development officer Aminul Islam, and Singapore batsman Chetan Suryawanshi.

The Nepal side will be led by Gyanendra Malla, in the absence of their star player Paras Khadka. Nepal recently missed out narrowly on a spot in the T20 World Cup in 2016.
