Notices issued on Min. Bathiyutheen and eight others over destruction caused to Wilpattu
Notices were issued on nine persons including Minister Rishad Bathiyutheen and the Secretary to the Ministry of Environment to appear before the Court of Appeal on September 26.
Notices were issued on Tuesday after a petition filed with the court on the destruction caused to the Wilpattu National Park when it was taken up.
The petition filed by the Centre for Environmental Justice was taken up before the Court of Appeal Chairman Vijith Malalgoda and Justice H.T.J. Madawala.
In the petition the Centre for Environmental Justice points out that the deforestation of the Marichchankattu and Madu reserves in close proximity to the Wilpattu National Park and the construction of houses in a 2000 acre land is posing a risk to the environment.
