China restricts drone, supercomputer exports to protect national security
Aug 05, 2015 (LBO) – Chinese government has restricted drone and supercomputer exports in a bid to protect national security and strengthen export controls on sensitive items.
Under the new rule, starting from August 15, companies that make certain drones and computers will have to register with government authorities and obtain a license before exporting them.
The items include drones capable of flight for longer than an hour.
China has exported 160,000 civilian drones worth 122.5 million US dollars for the first five months of this year.
The number of drones was 69 times more than the same period last year, while their sales value was 55 times that of the same period in 2014, Chinese media reports said.
Meanwhile Chinese tech company has started developing a new generation supercomputer or a mainframe tailored for certain application that is capable of over a hundred thousand trillion computing operations per second.
