Lankan arrested with foreign currency at BIA
A 56-year-old Sri Lankan man who attempted to smuggle out foreign currency worth Rs 4.6 million has been detained by the Airport and Aviation Service officials at the departure longue of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday (4). He was later handed over to Sri Lanka Customs.
According to Customs Spokesperson Leslie Gamini, the suspect who was a resident of Dematagoda was to board UL 281 bound for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Foreign currency that was concealed in the suspect's hand luggage amounted to SR 130,000.
Further investigations are being carried out by Customs officials.
