Over 230 suspects arrested over unrest
Over 230 suspects have been arrested over the unrest which took place since the mob attack at Galle Face on 9th May.
The Police said that among those arrested are 71 suspects from the Western Province, 43 from the Southern Province, 17 from the Central Province, 36 from the North-Western Province, 47 from the North-Central Province, 13 from the Sabaragamuwa Province, and one person from the North and two from the Uva Province.
The suspects were arrested for attacking public property, looting, assault and other offences.
A mob led by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) had gone on a rampage on 9th May, attacking peaceful demonstrators near Temple Trees and at Galle Face.
Angry supporters of those demonstrating at Galle Face had then taken to the streets and set fire to buses used by the SLPP mob.
They also attacked property linked to the SLPP and assaulted a number of individuals. (Colombo Gazette)
