Sri Lanka reveals low fuel stock levels
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Minister for Fuel and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera revealed that most of the country’s fuel stocks has dipped close to 1000 metric tonnes as commodity queues only grew.
As of now, the island has only 12,774 metric tonnes of Diesel.
The most used Petrol 92 has dropped to 1,414 metric tonnes while the Octane 95 is at 2,677 metric tonnes.
Meanwhile, only 233 metric tonnes of Super Diesel are available and 500 metric tonnes of air-fuel 500 metric tonnes.
The minister said there is a 2,900 metric tonnes of furnace oil of which 95 percent will be used for electricity generation.
He affirmed that the country will receive around 10 fuel ships between July and August.
Sri Lanka’s roads have emptied out as almost all public transportation drivers and the general public are stuck in fuel queues for at least three days.
