SL Women emerge victorious
Witrand Cricket Club witnessed the most exciting match of the day. Ireland riding on opener Clare Shillington’s dogged 110-ball 78 (5×4) put up a fighting 211 for eight in its 50 overs. Isobel Joyce (31) and Jill Whelan (38) made handy contributions to the total.
Sri Lanka struggled in its chase as it slipped to 35 for three in 9.1 overs. But veteran Sajeewani Inoka Galagedara (50: 69b, 5×4) and Sandamali Dolawatta (74: 112b, 6×4) added 134 runs for the fourth wicket to set up the chase. Sri Lanka again lost wickets in a heap and went from 169 for three to 211 for eight.
But luckily for Sri Lanka the collapse did not prove costly as it ran home winners by two wickets.
