How can Sri Lankan charities find international donors and partners?

Kumar Sangakkara and the fateful 134

- newsfirst.lk

Monday, August 24,  was a sad day for Sri Lankan cricket  as veteran batsman Kumar Sangakkara hung up his boots and bid farewell to his international cricketing career. In the weeks preceding his final innings, many pundits and analysts have been cross-examining the records and stats racked up by this elegant stroke-maker.

However, they failed to see that there is one particular number that keeps popping up, as if fate had its part to play in it, throughout Sangakkara’s career.

That auspicious number is 134. Kumar Sangakkara’s final T20 International outing was on  April 6, 2014 against India, in the all-important finals of the 20/20 World Cup. He scored an unbeaten 52 runs in 35 deliveries and Sri Lanka went on to win the Wold Cup by 134 runs.

Sangakkara’s last ODI game was played on March 18, 2015 (World Cup quarter final against South Africa) and although he scored 45 runs, Sri Lanka suffered defeat. The victory target for the Proteas during Sanga’s last ODI was 134.

On Monday, when Sri Lanka’s second innings of the second test against India came to and end, signalling the culmination of Kumar’s test career, the score board read 134 as Sangakkara walked into the sunset having played his 134th test match.
