Minister Denies Allegations
Labor Minister Gamini Lokuge has denied allegations leveled against Sri Lanka by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
He has said the government has honored all it’s commitments on labor conventions ratified by the government of Sri Lanka.
Responding to allegations made by the ITUC, Minister Lokuge has been quoted in the media that when ever violations of labor law have been reported the offenders have been punished.
Lokuge has reportedly said, “I challenge these people who are bringing these allegations to come up with specific instances.”
Meanwhile, the ITUC BBC has reported to the World Trade Organization that although Sri Lanka has ratified all eight of the International Labor Organization’s core conventions, it has largely failed to implement these conventions.
