The ‘B’ sample testing relating to Commonwealth Games gold medalist Manjula Wanniarachchi took a new twist following a comprehensive investigation from the Sri Lankan team delegation in New Delhi yesterday.
The ‘B’ sample testing which was scheduled to be held on Tuesday at the National Dope testing Laboratory in New Delhi could not take place in view of several issues raised by Wanniarachchi’s Counsel Professor Kalinga Indratissa and his representatives.
The concerns raised by Counsel referred to several provisions of the WADA International Standards Rules.
In terms of the above Rules there is a clear duty to maintain a proper chain of custody from the time the samples are taken.
It was contended by Counsel that in this specific case there were no documentation that had been made available to show that such a chain of custody was maintained from the time the samples were taken and until it left for analysis to the laboratory.
