Former LTTE Eastern Commander gives an insight into death of LTTE leader
The Former LTTE Eastern Commander and Former Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralidharan alias Karuna Amman has provided revealing insights into the death of LTTE leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran.
In an interview with an Indian TV channel, he made the following comments:
When questioned if it was actually Prabhakaran who was killed, Former Deputy Minister,Vinayagamoorthy Muralidharan noted that to belittle the death, many are saying that Prabhakaran surrendered, was brought to Mahinda Rajapaksa and was tortured and killed.
He added :
When I joined the LTTE, Prabakaran introduced cyanide to me saying that it should be taken to end our own lives in the event our lives are compromised. So, will such a person surrender to the Army?
He added:
I was the one who identified Prabhakaran’s body and there is a specific reason for that because there was a scar on Prabhakaran’s body which only he and I knew about and we got a new weapon which could fire both shells and ammunition. So, Prabhakaran fired a shell with this weapon without opening a particular section, which should have been open and we were around watching and so this shell landed on his left leg and he collapsed and the fact that his life was saved that day was a miracle and so there were scars from this incident on Prabhakaran’s left leg and I know much more about him.
He added:
I was in the war for thirty years, I know about how a bullet can strike so I believe that this was a suicide and this is what actually happened
He went on to state;
The army launched an attack around 12 midnight and then at around 4 in the morning when they conducted a search operation in the area they found the body of Prabhakaran. but I reiterate the fact that the LTTE leader did not surrender and Prabhakaran was a right-hander and a person who uses his right hand to fire a pistol will not shoot exposing his left side because he shoots while giving more weight to his right side and You could watch the footage of his body if you need.
When questioned who should be held accountable for the alleged war crimes during the war?
He noted that Mahinda Rajapaksa should’ve taken action with regard to this when he was President and if there was something wrong done on their part, he could have apologised to the Tamil people and if that had happened it would’ve made a major difference in Sri Lanka today.
He went on to state:
But now when the country is being punished with an international investigation, who can guarantee the safety of the Tamil people? Because Tamils in other parts of the world have no issue and those in Switzerland will scream and protest, but will still be safe and it is the same in other countries where 40 people are charged with war crimes but when these people are punished who will protect the Tamil people in Colombo. And what happens to the safety of the Tamil people in the estates and what will happen to the North and East because racism could raise its head again but these can be strategically solved.
