Northern PC passes resolution for international inquiry on alleged HR violations
The Northern Provincial Council passed a resolution on Tuesday to conduct an international inquiry on the alleged violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.
The proposal was tabled by Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Vigneswaran. However, five members of the opposition, including leader of the opposition C. Thavarasa abstained from voting for the proposal.
The sitting took place in the premises of the NPC located in Kaithady, Jaffna.
Members of the ruling party extended their support to the proposal which was to conduct an international inquiry on the alleged violations of human rights and international humanitarian law. The next sitting of the Northern Provincial Council will convene on September 22.
