No Parliamentary privileges for Wimal, Udaya, Dinesh & Vasu
The leaders of main parties have decided not to recognize Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Dinesh Gunawardene and Chandrasiri Gajadeera as party leaders as they contested the general election under the UPFA.
The decision has been approved by the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
The above mentioned MPs will not be considered as party leaders but Members of the UPFA and hereafter they would not get any Parliamentary privileges the party leaders are entitled to.
As such these Members will not get front row seats in Parliament and they would be denied all privileges entitled to party leaders including making special statements under article 23 (ii).
The Speaker Karu Jayasuriya speaking after accepting the post said only the UNP, UPFA, TNA, JVP, SLMC and EPDP would be recognized political parties in Parliament.
