Upcountry vegetable prices take a slide
The prices of upcountry vegetables in the markets have declined significantly as a result of the inclement weather.
Traders point out that the market situation has changed as a result of the transportation difficulties and storage difficulties experienced due to the prevalent weather. The wholesale prices of vegetables in the Dambulla – Economic Centres and the Colombo Manning Market had reduced in a very significant manner.
The prices of leeks, carrot and cabbages have reduced very significantly.Farmers and intermediate businessmen say that this situation does not favor them. Although there is a price decrease in the wholesale markets, the prices in the retail market have not reduced.
