All arrangements are in place for the opening of the Sangupiddy Bridge which links the North and the South this afternoon.
President Rajapaksa will open the bridge, which will link Pooneryn and Jaffna. The bridge is 288 metres long. It has two lanes. The cost incurred in the building of the bridge was 288 million rupees. With the opening of the bridge there will be two access routes to the Jaffna Peninsula. The distance of travelling to Jaffna will be cut by 120 kilometres than taking the A-9 Highway. It will also be possible to cut the traveling time by three hours.
