Tourist arrival rise by 46 percent

An increase of 46 percent in tourist arrivals has been reported last month. This is indicated in the statistics released by Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

5757 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka during January last year and the number has increased to 74 thousand 197 during January this year. The highest number of tourist arrivals is reported from South Asian countries. The Tourism Development Authority pointed out that the tourist arrivals from Western Europe, East Asia and North America have also increased. The reports point out that ending of the war that prevailed for three decades and increasing facilities for tourists, including other developments in the sector had contributed to this improvement.
