Father, son among dead in Anawilundawa tragedy

Three individuals including two children drowned in the Suruwila tank in Anawilundawa

The victims were residents from the Veyangoda area in Gampaha. Thirty-eight-year-old Sumithra Priyalal had arrived in the Anavilundaa=wa area in Chilaw, his home town, with two of his children, and two other children, with the hope of visiting his mother.

The group had then visited the Suruwila tank in Anavilundawa. It was then that Sumithra Priyalal’s fifteen-year-old son, and another sixteen-year-old stepped in to the tank to bathe.

The two boys had drowned while they were taking the bath. Sumithra Priyalal who attempted to save them, too had drowned. Navy divers carried out a search operation and after an half hour search, they recovered the three bodies.

The deceased are thirty-eight-year-old Sumithra Priyalal, his son, Chanaka Sandaruwan and another child named Ravika Dulanjana.
