Customs officers released under tight conditions
The three Customs officers who were arrested by the officials of Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over soliciting a bribe of Rs. 125 million and were in remand custody were released by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today (1st).
The three officers were released on Rs. 100,000 bail and two sureties of Rs. 5 million each. One of the sureties should be a government official.
The suspects were also banned from travelling abroad and were asked to report to the Bribery Commission on the last Sunday of every month.
The three Customs officers including a superintendent were arrested by the Bribery Commission on 15th October for soliciting a bribe of Rs.125 million from a businessman in Panchikawatta who supplies spare parts to the SLTB.
