PM Wickremesinghe makes key observations on GMOA, CEPA and pensions
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe made a special announcement in Parliament on Wednesday, Decemeber 09
Th Prime Minister stated that the GMOA alleges that the Sri Lankan government is attempting to sign the CEPA agreement with India, under a different name.
He went on to note that the GMOA, who was protecting the Rajapaksa regime, did not take part on the revolution on January 8. And as their government would not agree to the CEPA agreement, they will not allow it to be signed under another name.
He added they hope to reach an agreement with China and Singapore as they will reach discussions with trade unions, and inform party leaders to obtain cabinet approval.
Explaining further, he stated that he announced to parliament that the EPF and ETF will not be amalgamated and the funds will not be taken away from the CBSL and also that a decision has not been taken to cancel or amend the pensions of the public servants.
The Prime Minister also stated that if the petrol price is doubled, the funds to include Rs.10,000 into the salary could be done as concessionary vehicle permits will not be made void.
UPFA MP, Dinesh Gunawardena stated that with regard to the agreement, they are not opposing the friendship between Sri Lanka and India.
He went on to note that the stance with the opposition with regard to the negative impacts and requested that a discussion be called before the departure of Malik Samarawickrama.
