A claim by a 15-year-old boy that he was kidnapped from Fort Jackson, and which led to an Army and FBI investigation, might have been false.
The Army released a news release this morning saying the teenager has admitted making up the kidnapping story because he did not have permission from his parents to leave the base. However, the body maintains that he was robbed and left in a parking lot.
He reportedly told investigators this morning he left on his own around 6 p.m. Wednesday from Coleman Gymnasium, then was robbed at gunpoint.
Fort spokesman Patrick Jones said the Fort Jackson Criminal Investigation Command and the FBI began an investigation.
Investigation of the alleged robbery has been turned over to the Richland County Sheriff's Department.
