The Consumer Affairs Authority has denied requests made by milk powder companies to permit the increase of milk powder prices.
The milk powder companies requested a Rs. 50 increase for a 1 kilo milk powder pack and Rs. 20-30 increase for a 400 gram pack.
In a bid to prevent an increase of milk powder prices, the government reduced the import duty on milk powder earlier in the year.
Meanwhile, baker owners have warned of a possible increase in bakery food items.
However, they have said there would not be an increase in the food items until the end of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
