Suspect further remanded for helping LTTE cadres flee the country
The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has granted the CID permission to further detain a suspect for supporting tiger terrorists to flee the country.
The suspect was taken into custody from Kilinochchi on charges of giving an opportunity for LTTE cadres to flee the country through multi-day trawlers during the final stage of the humanitarian operation. Submitting a report on the suspect to Courts, the CID said the suspect had assisted many LTTE cadres who did not surrender to the Forces, to flee the country. The report had mentioned that the suspect should further remain in custody for grilling on tiger cadres who had escaped in this manner. Taking into consideration the submissions, the Colombo Magistrate’s Court permitted the CID to detain the suspect for a period of 90 days.
