Government says no legal basis for Darusman’s report
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has emphatically declared that the Darusman Report has not legal basis. It is totally against the Panel appointed without any request. It stressed that no room will be left to betray the Sri Lankan Government which destroyed terrorism.
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that it should be clearly announced that the Government from the time the Panel was appointed emphasized that there was no need for such a move. This was the stand of the Government as well as the party. The country had routed the world’s deadliest terrorism and entered history books. The intention of releasing the report was to hinder the journey the country which has now embarked upon. The Minister assured the entire nation that all possible measures would be adopted to prevent the country being put into difficulty.
Minister Susil Premajayantha said that the controversial Darusman Report is biased and contains facts which cannot be proved. He said that powerful countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, India and also members of the European Union have listed the LTTE as a terrorist outfit and proscribed it. The ban is still in force. If so, the Minister said that it is very clear that such clauses had been incorporated in the report to white wash the LTTE outfit. He emphasized that the Government totally rejected this controversial Darusman Report.
Minister Sarath Amunugama said they considered that this action was illegal. The query they raise is as to who had called for the launch of such an inquiry. Neither the Government nor any other leading local institution had requested the conduct of such an inquiry. As such the Minister added that no one had the authority to conduct such an independent inquiry.
