India-SL Ferry Service Delayed
The Ports and Highways Ministry has reportedly said that the ferry service from Tuticorin harbour in India to Sri Lanka has been postponed following a low demand for the service in India.
A ministry official has been reported in the local media as saying that the delay was due to the lack of publicity given to the service in India.
Meanwhile, A. Subbiah, Chairman of the Tuticorin Port Trust has told the BBC Tamil Service that the arrangements for the commencement of the ferry service have not yet been finalized.
He has said the port would not be ready for another two weeks.
“In another 15 days all works relating to the start of the Ferry service will be over and work in that regard is going on in full swing”. The Chairman has told the BBC.
The ferry service was to initially commence on May 10 this year.
