Media Release

Sri Lanka Cricket has embarked on a significant initiative of securing a professional coach to serve the National Team and is proud to announce that Graham Ford will rejoin Sri Lanka Cricket as the Head Coach with effect from 1st February 2016.

As per the vision of the newly appointed Executive Committee, it was priority to head hunt and appoint a reputed coach to serve Sri Lanka Cricket until the World Cup in 2019 in England. Bringing back a coach of Graham Ford’s caliber is part of the new Executive Committee’s plan towards restoring Sri Lanka Cricket back to its glory days.

He will be entrusted with the National Team for a period of 45 months to build the strength and stability of our Cricket until the ICC World Cup in 2019. His main task would be to enhance the capabilities of the young National Team which is currently on a rebuilding process. As the national team continues its transition following high-profile retirements, Ford’s reputation for being good with young players was among the reasons for the new Executive Committee to secure Ford for the job.

The former South African first class Cricketer Ford, served under Bob Woolmer as an Assistant Coach of the South African National Team in 1999. He then replaced Woolmer as the Head Coach of the South African Team following the ICC World Cup.

After serving as the Director of Kent in 2005, he joined the Sri Lanka National Team as the Head Coach in January 2012 where he guided Sri Lanka to the Finals of ICC World Twenty20 Championship in 2012 against West Indies in Colombo.

Prior to joining SLC Graham Ford was the Head Coach of Surrey County Cricket Club.
