Minister Weerakkody’s deceptive formula withdrawn
The proposal presented two weeks ago by Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Chandima Weerakkody to the cabinet to introduce a formula for fuel prices was rejected by the cabinet say reports.
It is said that the cabinet paper was rejected when the Ministry of Finance announced that it could not agree to the proposal. Minister Weerakkody has been saying that a formula would be introduced for fuel prices but it has not been a reality yet.
At the time prices of fuel in the world market has come down rapidly but the government is coming out with various statements to avoid giving the benefit of the reduced prices in the world market to consumers in the country.
According to fuel prices in the world market at present petrol could be given at Rs.52 a liter and diesel at Rs.42 a liter pointed out the Leader of the JVP Anura Dissanayaka in Parliament. He said fuel could be made available to the suggested prices even after government taxes and profits are added.
Mr. Chandima Weerakkody, who was the deputy Speaker during Mahinda Rajapaksa regime and was a very strong supporter of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa preventing benefits of the reduce fuel prices in the world market to be given to the people could be a part of the conspiracy to destabilize the 'yahapalana' government point out political analysts.
