Min. Amaratunga spotlights promise of tourism at 50th anniversary celebrations
A media briefing on the 50th anniversary celebrations of Sri Lanka Tourism took place in Colombo on Friday under the auspices of Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs, John Amaratunga.
“We are now focusing forward as an industry in Sri Lanka – to be the foremost foreign exchange earner,” said the Minister. The minister added that it is not impossible for the industry to be the highest foreign exchange earner for this country at the speed it is developing.
He added that contributions towards the industry is the private sector approach, facilitated and regulated by the ministry, and one complaint by most tourists who come to Sri Lanka is that there are insufficient events in Sri Lanka. And thus the focus is to improve in that direction and focus on sports tourism.
A logo was also launched to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Sri Lanka Tourism.
