Tree trimming is suspended indefinitely in downtown Columbia neighborhoods.
“At this point, we don’t have a definitive time frame as to when we might resume,” SCE&G spokesman Eric Boomhower said Monday.
City officials are pressing the Cayce-based utility for changes that lessen pruning that some neighborhood groups say is too drastic.
A coalition of Columbia groups Monday also called for more attention to appearance in trimming trees near overhead power lines.
SCE&G is engaging in “aggressive tree-cutting” that is destroying the canopy of trees in several neighborhoods, Ryan Nevius of Sustainable Midlands said.
