Tree trimming on hold
Tree trimming is suspended indefinitely in downtown Columbia neighborhoods.
“At this point, we don’t have a definitive time frame as to when we might resume,” SCE&G spokesman Eric Boomhower said Monday.City officials are pressing the Cayce-based utility for changes that lessen pruning that some neighborhood groups say is too drastic.A coalition of Columbia groups Monday also called for more attention to appearance in trimming trees near overhead power lines.SCE&G is engaging in “aggressive tree-cutting” that is destroying the canopy of trees in several neighborhoods, Ryan Nevius of Sustainable Midlands said.
