First Randoli Perahera parades tonight
The first Randoli Perahera of the Kandy Esala Perahera, the biggest Buddhist festival of Sri Lanka, held annually in honour of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha enshrined at the Temple of Tooth in Kandy, will parade the streets in Kandy tonight.
The Perahera will begin at the auspicious time of 7.55pm. It will proceed from the Sri Dalada Maligawa across Dalada Veediya, D. S. Senanayake Veediya, Temple Road, Deva Veediya, Colombo Street, E. L. Senanayake Veediya and Cross Road and return to Raja Veediya.
The final Kumbal Perahera of the Festival paraded the streets last night. It commenced at the auspicious time of 6.50pm. and wended its way through Dalada Veediya, Yatinuwara Veediya and returned through Raja Veediya. The Casket of the final Kumbal Perahera was carried by the Vasana Tusker of Kataragama. Up Country and Low Country were the highlights of the Perahera.
There were many foreign tourists to view the Perahera in additional to local crowds. The final Randoli Perahera of the Kandy Esala Perahera will be on the 13th of this month.
