Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo achieved Green Globe re-certification after evaluation by the premier international sustainability body.  The hotel was the first Sri Lankan city hotel to attain Green Globe certification in 2010 and the only Sri Lankan hotel to be recertified this year.

Conformity to 336 criteria is evaluated for a second time applicant, an increase of 88 on the initial 248 of the first year.  The hotel succeeded in all 39 sub categories broadly classified under Sustainable Management, Social/Economic, Cultural Heritage and Environment.
Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo adheres to Green Globe guidelines in its daily practices and processes.  The collection and reuse of rainwater, implementation of energy saving measures, use of environment friendly laundry bags and ‘green’ themed CSR initiatives are areas the hotel scored on.  Awareness creation amongst associates, guests and the general public was an integral part of the hotel’s sustainability drive.
Neroy Marso, General Manager of Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo is firm in his conviction.  “Everything we have achieved is negated unless it is sustainable on the long term.  This is why our sustainability strategy involves inculcating a culture of social and environmental responsibility across the hotel.  The results are encouraging as many environmental practices we have implemented are the result of ideas from our staff,” Marso said.
The Green Globe Certification upholds the highest standards of credibility and transparency. The organisation follows an independent third party verification process and updates its criteria annually to ensure international compliance to the standards.
Green Globe Certification supports the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria (GSTC). The GSTC is the agreed international standard for the sustainable operation and management of travel and tourism businesses. The Green Globe Standard meets and exceeds all the requirements of the GSTC.
Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo is a member of the Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts chain of the John Keells Group.
Located in the heart of the metropolis Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo is the preferred choice of both business and leisure travellers with its ‘resort in the city’ approach to hospitality.
