President Rajapaksa presenting a Resolution in Parliament today to lift the State of Emergency, said that there was no need to maintain an emergency as security in the country has now been consolidated.

Moving the Resolution, the President said this Parliament for several years had adopted the extension of the Emergency. Some voted against it while some abstained from voting. He said Parliament was represented by all political parties.

The President pointed out that they have an opportunity to find solutions to the problems of the country sans terrorist influence. As such, he said he was calling on Parliament on behalf of the people to grant this opportunity to the country. To maintain the future activities of the country democratically under normal regulations, he said he wished to submit the Resolution to lift the Emergency. The President opined that he was making this proposal as he was satisfied there was no need for such regulations to administer the country.
