A ceremony to commemorate Vietnam’s National Day has been held in Colombo. This is the first National Day commemoration to be held in Colombo with the establishment of the Vietnamese Embassy in Sri Lanka. Vietnam gained independence in 1945 and this was its 66th National Day.
Vietnam is considered to be the second major rice exporting country in the world. Friendly ties between Sri Lanka and Vietnam solidified via the Non-Aligned Movement. These ties further improved following President Rajapaksa’s visit to that country Minister Lakshman Seneviratne, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka Tom Sing Tan were among those who joined in the Vietnamese National Day commemoration in Colombo.
