Benedictines mega show ‘CUBE’ from 15 to 17 September

St. Benedict’s College will showcase its talent through an exhibition covering diverse areas of science, information technology among others at an event titled CUBE from 15 to 17 September at the College from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

St. Benedict’s College Director Rev. Bro. Granville Perera said CUBE’s objective was to help students transform theoretical knowledge into day to day empirical realities.
“It will showcase the creative abilities and sprouting potentialities of the students. The student’s efforts will be backed up by guidance and expertise of reputed institutions, organizations and Government bodies,” he added.
Among them are the Central Bank, Archaeological Department, Medical Faculty of the University of Kelaniya, the Zoological Section of the Ministry of Health, NARA, Sri Lanka Telecom, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.
The event will also see the introduction and launching of a generator, and a display of  modules of vehicles all powered by water and fuel, by construction trade award winner 1990 and Electrical Olympic Gold Medallist W. A. Keerthi R. De Silva (founder and patent of the water fuel system).
Chairman of the Organising Committee Tony Ganlath revealed that “unique exhibits such as the ‘Money Museum’ by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, models of harbours, highways and bridges by the Road Development Authority and stalls designed especially for school exhibits by the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force will be featured”.
CUBE will also include talent show by primary school, musical performance by the College Western Band and Choir and a musical show from 6 p.m. onwards on 15 September; talent show by the primary school, performance by Mr. Bean (local), dance items, musical entertainment by the students, Army Band with Sirasa Super Stars and Derana Dream Stars on 16 September whilst on the final day gymnastics, musical entertainment by Super Bens with Ranavira Real Star and Mohan Rah, Benedictine Exhibition Splash, grand musical show featuring Mirage, Rebels and guest artists will be among the line up.
Proceeds from the event will be used for the new classroom building project.
Sunesh Rodrigo, a member of the organising committee and a journalist himself, said the St. Benedict’s College Media Unit will be renamed as the ‘Lasantha Wickrematunge Media Unit,’ in memory of the veteran journalist and loyal old Ben. The official letter in this regard was handed over to Lal Wickrematunge, brother of late Lasantha Wickrematunge by Rev. Perera.
Ganlath extended an open invitation to all Benedictines, both young and old, their families and well wishers to receive and share the knowledge not forgetting to have some pure fun, the Benedictine way.
As the oldest Catholic institute in Colombo among a vast number of schools, St. Benedict’s College is one of the leading Catholic Colleges of the Colombo Archdiocese. Founded in 1865, St. Benedict’s has always maintained its reputation for the sound education it imparts to its pupils. The year 1866 in which the college had the pleasure of welcoming the Christian Brothers, St. Benedict’s College was opened under their care and formed an epoch in the history of Catholic education in Ceylon.
