Machines to treat Thalassaemia gifted under auspices of President Sirisena
Machines for the treatment of patients with Thalassaemia, manufactured by the Sri Lanka Navy, was gifted to the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday, May 02.
Machines were symbolically presented to five children who have contracted Thalassaemia, parallel to Thalassaemia Day which falls on May 11.
The President also made financial donations to the children. The project was undertaken by the Research and Development Division of the Sri Lanka Navy, with Navy personnel gifting Rs.75 per month from their monthly wages.
Navy Commander Vice Admiral R.C. Wijeygunaratne, presented a token of appreciation to the President, to mark the event.
