Fans of Star Wars across the world celebrated ‘Star Wars’ day yesterday (May 4th)
The movie franchise that changed the industry forever, became cult and pop culture phenomenon that has given rise to plethora of fans and claimed its place amongst iconic movies.
The holiday caught on through Internet, social media, and grassroots celebrations.The date was chosen for the easy pun on the catchphrase “May the Force be with you”— “May the Fourth be with you”. Even though the holiday was not actually created or declared by Lucasfilm, many Star Wars fans across the world choose to celebrate the holiday.
In 2011, the first organized celebration of Star Wars Day took place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Toronto Underground Cinema
The White House has posted a video to celebrate the day that shows Barack and Michelle Obama dancing to “Uptown Funk” alongside a duo of stormtroopers. R2-D2 is there too
